A number of our members live at home with their parents. An adult with learning difficulties living at home can have a unique set of issues which can be solved by the parents meeting to share knowledge and expertise. The Carers group meet over a meal together to share their issues and problem-solve together. The parents who attend find it supportive and very useful.
We meet once a month for lunch normally at a mutually convenient pub, and chat about things that may be of concern to us or the people we care for. This can be anything from socialising, who to contact about things that are concerning us, claiming benefits, behaviour worries and anything in between!
We have found that our lunches end up as 'brain storming' sessions and one of us normally comes up with a solution in the end.
If you are a carer who still looks after a member at home and needs any help, please let me know, or perhaps you would like to join us for lunch.
